Joseph Alleman Works

Joseph Alleman began painting at age fifteen under Utah artist Harold Petersen, a realist painter. Born 1975 in San Francisco, California, Joseph grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated in Fine Art from Utah State University. Painting with watercolors is second nature for Joseph. Familiar subjects, such as weathered barns, red-roofed farmhouses, and wind-swept fields of alfalfa, attract his interest. He is equally adept with painting figurative subjects and landscapes, and enjoys working in a variety of media. For Joseph Alleman, an important motive to paint lies in understanding his surroundings. “I’m visually compelled by shape, value, and pattern. Through the process of painting, I gain new and deeper insight into my subjects. When I drive through areas around my home in Utah or take trips through Idaho, Wyoming and Washington State, I make mental notes about scenes that fascinate me. I can get car sick when I travel by myself because I’m constantly pulling off the road and backing up to make a quick sketch or take a few photos.” Many of the subjects of Joseph’s paintings are from Northern Utah’s Cache Valley where he currently resides with his family. Joseph is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, and he has received numerous honors and awards locally and nationally. His work has been featured in American Art Collector, The Artist’s Magazine, Art of the West, Watercolor Artist and Southwest Art Magazine. Joseph currently exhibits with galleries in Wyoming, Arizona, Utah and Mockingbird Gallery in Bend, Oregon.
