Tom Browning Works

Tom Browning

Born in Ontario, Oregon in 1949, Tom Browning has been painting professionally since 1972. Starting with western themes and wildlife as subject matter, which he loves, Tom has enjoyed a career of painting all subjects. The demand for his figurative work has remained strong, but he continues to pursue his western themes. Tom has used every medium to express himself, but for the past twenty-five years has painted primarily in oils. In 1994 he wrote an instructional book for North Light entitled “Timeless Techniques for Better Oil Paintings” which was acclaimed by many schools and painting students as one of the best in the market.

Since becoming a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group in 1986, Tom has been a four-time recipient of the Jurors Award, and in 1994 received an Award of Excellence from the NWR Group. In 1992 and ‘93 he was invited to show at the National Academy of Western Art (NAWA) and was a frequent guest painter with the Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA). Tom is a member of the Portrait Painters Society of America, which chose him as a finalist in a 2000 competition in New York City. In 2008 Tom was invited to participate in the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. At the 2009 Prix de West Show he was given the honor of having his painting “The Dawn of a New Day” win the Prix de West Award. He was also recognized with a special tile in the Edward L. Gaylord Exhibition Wing hallway, and his painting has taken its rightful place in the William S. and Ann Atherton Art of the American West Gallery.
